Daycare and Dogs and Cats
If you are planning in the future to do daycare or do daycare now for kids, this may not be a good time to get a dog or cat. Dogs and small toddlers are usually not a good blend in a day care situation. Here are some reasons and our policy.
Our dog and cat that you adopt may not ever have bit or scratched but all dogs know how to bite and all cats know how to use their claws and teeth and will attack if constantly provoked!!
When you have many children, it is hard to watch the pet and the children 100% of the time.
There is too much risk.
If a child is bitten, instead of getting rid of the day care child, you get rid of the pet.
Also, if pets do bite, you have a lawsuit; you could lose your license and your livelihood.
It is impossible to find a home or a rescue organization that will take a dog or cat that has bitten a child!
The dog or cat will end up being put down and it wasn't even their fault!
Most day care licenses will not allow even one dog!
Also, many times the owner of the dog who has a daycare leaves the dog outside for 8-12 hours while the kids are inside.
The dog doesn't get any attention and will jump fences, dig and chew and bark, bark, bark, bark when bored.
Then neighbors complain.
The police are at your door and you will get fined and want to return the dog.
Last Hope gets inquiries every day to place their animal because the animal is not working with small children. If a child is allergic to the dog or cat, the pet gets booted. If a dog or cat is a problem in a daycare home, the animal is surrendered. Last Hope cats and dogs have already had 2 and sometimes 3 homes. Last Hope wants each animal that we have the best long life and home. When we place an animal, we want them to have a permanent home forever.
Our contract does say no day care for any of our dogs or cats. When you read the contract, you will be required to agree that you will not have a daycare in your home. If you are running a daycare, we will not adopt an animal to you.
We, the volunteer fosters, are the ones that speak for the animals. We have had them in our homes, nursed them to health, fell in love and then found a great home for them with tears in our eyes. We don't want to put our dogs and cat is a place that is too much of a risk for them! We do it for the animals! No one else speaks for them!
