Inga (now Cookie)
Inga was one of the Shitzu Poos that we took from a Puppy Mill where they were going to destroy them since they were 4-5 years old and not good breeding moms any more.
After being shaved to the skin, vaccinated, and spayed, Inga found a great home at Easter time in 2007 in Elgin Minnesota where she quicky bonded to Corine, her new mom. Her new name is Cookie and really liked Corine, but really did not warm up to men.
She was micro chipped and the owner did not register it, but she was very well loved! She would hide when ever guests came over and would never warm up to anyone but Corine!
A day in August, we got an E Mail from Corine stating that while she was out of town on a business trip in Philadelphis, her son was watching her, Cookie escaped from the fenced in yard and took off. She slipped her collar and did not have any identification on her. Being afraid of men, she ran farther and her son ran after her until she could no longer be found. Corine, on her return was upset and asked us to watch for her. She wished that she had registered the microchip now!
Ten days later, Cookie showed up at her front door on her own. She started to bark and scratch the door. They never used that door either! How did she know to come back? She was full of burrs and very hungry.
Corine thought she would have to start from scratch with training and socialization, but it was like she was never gone. In fact, since she has been home again, she has been more cuddly with her mom that ever before. Of course, she still hides from strangers and only adores her owner, Corine.
A month after her ordeal, she got a haircut, and is learning to play with toys. She sleeps on the bed with Corine and loves treats. She paws at her when it is time to get up!! She is still afraid of her sons but has made friends with her sisters. She still startles easily and automatically pulls against the leash if something frightens her, but WOW!, she has come a long way since Easter. Corine says she is so happy she came home.
