CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW PUP!
Please read this important message so that you are aware of potential health issues that Last Hope cannot guarantee.
VIRUSES: It is important to follow the vaccination schedule and continue to give the required boosters within 3-4 weeks of each other. One virus called Parvo can be fatal. If your pup has 2 out of the 3 Parvo warning signs of diarrhea, lethargy or vomiting, you must take it to a vet immediately. During the one-week health guarantee, you must call only our emergency vet at Southview Animal Hospital, phone number (651) 455-2258, to get free vet care. DO NOT WAIT! Pups can die within a few days if this virus is not caught early and treated. You must also call the Last Hope coordinator, Angela, at (651) 451-7603 and the foster parent to let us know that your pup is coming in. If during your health guarantee you take any Last Hope animal to any other vet or emergency clinic for such treatment Last Hope will not pay the bill! To prevent your pup from getting viruses, keep the pup away from public places until it has the 3 required boosters or is at least 16 weeks of age. If any puppy that is in your home becomes infected with Parvo it is vet recommended that you do not adopt another puppy for a least a year. It takes 6 months or more for the virus to die. Use only bleach to clean since Lysol and other products do not kill this virus. HEARTWORM Heartworm disease does not show up in tests for 6 months after an infected mosquito has bitten the dog! Most vets will not test a pup less than 7 months old if it hasn’t gone through a summer. Last Hope cannot guarantee that a heartworm positive mosquito has not bitten your pup during the first weeks of his or her life. Pups can take heartworm preventative as they grow. Talk to your vet. HIP DYPSLASIA, FLOATING PATILLAS, AND OTHER HEREDITARY DISESASES: Last hope cannot guarantee that your pup will not grow to have these problems. We do not certify the health of the joints, knees, eyes, liver, allergies or any other disease. Last Hope will not pay for those surprises as your dog ages. No rescue group can. If any of these things scare you about adopting a pup, you may want to consider an adult dog with known issues. I have read this thoroughly and understand that, like when adopting a child, I will be responsible for the care of this animal for its lifetime.
