Bear, a dog with a calling!

Bear came to Last Hope at 5 years old.
He was a 7 pound Poodle with a gigantic heart. He had been passed around his whole life. It was hard to understand why, because he was a sweet little lap dog that wanted nothing more than to be with you.
We soon found that Bear had a level 5 PDA heart Murmur. Knowing that Bear may not make it to the age of 6, Last Hope decided to get him the life saving heart surgery he needed.
Bear was worth it.
We drove him to Iowa for the considerably cheaper Heart Surgery. Even the speeding ticket along the way was worth it! The St. Paul Pioneer Press wrote a wonderful story about Bear. People from all over sent money to help Last Hope pay his medical bills. Every donation was so appreciated, from $2 to $250, there were so many people that sent a donation and even told us about their stories with their own pets. Most did not even know Bear, but are just genuine Dog lovers with big hearts.
Many people along the way said that Bear was just a dog. They couldn't see spending hundreds of dollars to save a rescue dog. Last Hope believes he was put on this earth for a reason. We also believe that he came to US for a reason.
Bear was adopted to a wonderful woman and her daughter. She is a nurse who had just lost her husband to illness and is a Breast Cancer survivor. They needed each other. Now, Bear will go through the training to become a therapy dog for children who are heart patients. According to his new Mom, Bear will now give back to the community who saved him.
Yes, Bear is just a dog. Bear is a very special dog.
Thank you so much to the supporters of Last Hope and the Farmington vet clinic. Bear needed you and you really came through.
